Tim Brando as been the Host of College Football Today and is one the most famous voices in the world of college athletics. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Thursday to weigh in on Chip Kelly’s decision to leave the Oregon Ducks and head back east to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brando implies that the reason teams have been so enamored with Chip Kelly is because they think that he has found something that works and that not a lot of people understand how to do it.
“Colleges never want to admit the high school guys had a good idea and the NFL is usually slow to give credit to the college guys for having a good idea. Inevitably, they’re borrowing some of what they believe is really good from those lower levels of football and bringing it to the highest levels.”
Brando implies that he does not expect to see Chip Kelly fail as a head coach, but the guys he brings in to round out his staff will determine a lot of his success.
“It will be interesting for me to see what kind of staff he puts together and how much of what his philosophy has been at Oregon he believes he can put in at a place like Philadelphia and the NFC East game in and game out.”
And finally, with the recent trend of NFL teams going out and bringing college coaches in t lead their teams, Brando insists that there will probably be a couple more college guys heading to the pros in the next couple weeks.
“I think the two names that you should really keep an eye on in College Football that could be going into the NFL and going in soon would be Shaw at Stanford and Kevin Sumlin at Texas A & M.”
