Peter Vecsey spent more than 35 years as the NBA columnist for the New York Post and is one of the best NBA writers of all time.  He joined Chad on Flight 750 Wednesday to talk about his resignation from the Post and to weigh in on the top storylines swirling around the NBA.

Vecsey decided to leave the Post last year because of confrontations he had with his new sports editor who tried to tell him what he could and could not write about.  Vecsey claims that he told his editor that he wanted to write a piece about Leroy Ellis and his battle with prostate cancer after a dinner he had had with him.  However, his editor told him that he wasn’t interested in the story.

A couple months later, Ellis passed away and Vecsey decided that he was going to write the story he was originally denied.

He states, “Look, I’m doing this story on Leroy Ellis,” and he said, “Give me 14 inches.”…Usually I write 30-40 inches…”Give me 14 inches!  That’s all you can do…I resigned.  I said, “I’m out of here.”

Vecsey also spoke to the big news that Seattle may soon be getting another NBA team.

“David Stern told me to my face that he absolutely wants a team back in Seattle.  I don’t know if it’s going to be the King’s that’ll get back there but apparently this guy’s got a lot of money and he’s going to back the arena and that’s what it’s going to take.”

And finally, Vecsey spoke to the horrible mess that has become the Los Angeles Lakers.

“D’Antoni is you know to me a terrible coach.  It was a bad pickup.  It’s amazing to me in this league that guys can quit jobs.  He quit Phoenix…He quit the Knicks…He gets the Lakers.  So what happens if he quits the Lakers or gets fired by the Lakers?  Do they give him the Olympic job?

Take a listen to the interview and pay special attention for the comedic exchange when he talks about Kevin Garnett telling Carmelo Anthony that his wife tasted like honey nut cheerios.
