7' Crucifix Completed In Troutdale

A 7' sculpture of the Crucifix has been finished in a Troutdale studio by sculptor Rip Caswell. He'll send it to a foundry in Joseph, Oregon next week to be cast in bronze. Then in September, Caswell will drive it to Wichita, Kansas and the Catholic church that commissioned the sculpture.
He spent six months at Mt. Angel Abbey to get his inspiration for the piece. He based the face on the Shroud of Turin and used two models for the body. One was strong and muscular to show how the arms of a carpenter must be. The other was lean with rib cage protruding to show how Jesus must have looked after fasting.
