The 14th Dalai Lama is in town for a three-day environmental summit. The spiritual leader of Tibet kicked off the events today with a morning service at the University of Portland.
His Holiness wore a purple Pilots visor as he talked about how the environment and spirituality are connected.
Several more events are planned in Portland and at the University of Oregon in Eugene. The Dalai Lama will wrap-up his visit on Saturday afternoon with a public address at Memorial Coliseum that will focus on inspiration for the global environment.
Tenzin Gyatso was invited by Maitripa College in Southeast Portland. The Buddhist college's president has been working to bring the Dalai Lama here for six years. The last visit was 12 years ago.
