Notre Dame could arguably be the biggest surprise in college football earning a spot in the BCS National Championship game against Alabama. Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated joined The Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to preview the game.

John asked Stewart to give his pick in the National Championship game.

"I originally picked Alabama like the whole world and know with six weeks to think about it I think we're falling into the trap that we've fallen into a lot of times where a team that's been on top of the sport for awhile people think they're invincible and Alabama's team this year is not invincible. I don't think Notre Dame is getting nearly enough credit for the performance they had this season."

Oregon coach Chip Kelly had entertained offers from the NFL but decided to stay in Eugene as the coach of the Ducks. Mandel talked about why he might have stayed in Eugene.

"I'm guessing what he wants is control of the franchise where he has control of his program and something that Nick Saban sought and Pete Carroll sought and I just can't imagine many NFL franchises are willing to hand that over to someone who's never spent a day in the NFL."

Mandel and John also talk about Ducks offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich and his position as a future head coach.
