Pat Williams has overcome cancer, authored more than 70 books, is a motivational speaker and is also the Senior Vice President of the Orlando Magic of the NBA. He joined Chad on Flight 750 to talk about his new book NBA List Jam!
Williams insists that this is not your ordinary book of NBA facts and statistics. It’s a compilation of top ten lists that cover all aspects of the NBA.
“We came up with a list and they number about 125 topics and then the task was to find someone that we consider an expert on that topic…Jeanie Buss of the Lakers did my ten favorite celebrity Laker fans…Craig Sager did my ten zaniest outfits that I’ve worn during NBA telecasts.”
Williams also claims that there was one list that was exceptionally tough to come up with.
“Micheal Connelly and I took on the task of ranking the top
100 NBA players of all time from 100 down to 1. It was all but an impossible task but we went ahead with it
and there that list sits with Michael Jordan at number one and Kobe number
eight, all the big men lodged in there somewhere and Magic and Larry Bird," and the list goes on an on.
Although Williams has Kobe Bryant ranked as the eighth greatest player of all time right now, he maintains that there is a serious chance that he moves up on that list.
“I think he’s going to end up as the leading scorer of all time. I think that’s important to him and I think three more productive years or good years after this – that would take him to age 37 – And I think he’ll frankly play until he can’t function anymore…I just think he’s a gym rat.”
